NASEO:
Helping Increase Our National Energy Security
Every day our lives are affected by energy - oil, gas, coal,
electricity and alternative fuels. No other resource or industry touches
so many of us in so many ways; without energy, we'd be powerless,
literally.
Given energy's significant impact on the U.S. economy and environment,
it is essential to achieve a national energy strategy that allows states
and territories to develop and implement programs, and set priorities,
that positively affect citizens while wisely using indigenous energy
resources.
For more than a decade, the National Association of State Energy
Officials (NASEO) has provided leadership on these issues as energy's
Washington voice - guiding regional, state and federal government
officials toward a deeper understanding of energy's pivotal role in the
economy and environment, and informing them about the specific energy
priorities and concerns of the states and territories.
Affiliated with the National Governors' Association, NASEO members are
officials from the State and Territory Energy Offices and affiliates from
the private and public sectors. The nonprofit association was created by
the governors as an "instrumentality of the states" to improve
the effectiveness and quality of state energy programs and policies, and
to be a collector and repository of energy-related information. NASEO
meetings and communications offer a forum for energy officials,
policymakers and others to exchange information and discuss issues with
regional and national implications.
Issues of concern to NASEO include electric and gas utility,
transportation, buildings, research, economic development, environmental,
energy efficiency, renewable energy and other energy-related matters.
