NASEO's Core Activities and MissionThe National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) has grown from an organization focused on a limited number of state energy issues to one that reflects the broad array of issues addressed by the State and Territory Energy Offices it serves. Recognition of the linkages among economy, environment, security, and energy has, over the years, spawned initiatives and interest ranging from development of industrial efficiency programs to energy emergency planning to participation in state implementation plans to electricity restructuring to international exchange. Each of these issues and others impact a significant number of NASEO's members directly and in most cases all of the states, territories, and District of Columbia indirectly. In a series of strategic planning discussions held during 2002, the NASEO Board of Directors determined that continued and increased funding of the State Energy Program was critical to the State and Territory Energy Offices in achieving the goals that they share with the U.S. Department of Energy. The federal support provided through the State Energy Program preserves states' flexibility in designing activities that address local needs and conditions while contributing to national goals. Thus, communicating the importance and success of the State Energy Program is a top priority for NASEO's. Among the organization's core activities are:
The range of issues covered by NASEO is broad. However, its core activities and approach to collective decision-making and active communications with and for its members should not be lost and must remain true to the mission agreed to by the Board of Directors in its strategic planning efforts which is as follows: NASEO, an instrumentality of the states, represents and supports the states and territories as they pursue an economically, environmentally, socially sustainable, and secure energy future. < back to top > |
