State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs
In 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced funding of up to $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to support residential ENERGY STAR appliance rebate programs to be administered by State Energy Offices. Through these State programs, consumers receive rebates for new ENERGY STAR qualified appliances. Currently, 51 States and Territories have launched (and, in some cases, are still running) their programs. Of those, 13 have already fully reserved their funds and closed their programs, with most of the funds being reserved within the first day. Each State and Territory designed their own program, selected the appliances to include, and the rebate level.
Since more than 70% of the energy used in our homes is for appliances such as refrigerators, space heating, cooling, and water heating, replacing old equipment with those that are ENERGY STAR rated can help families save significantly with their utility bills. Offering the removal of old appliances is an additional goal of the State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.
