Barriers to Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Deployment
The Electricity Innovation Institute (E2I) discusses its approach
to addressing the critical barriers that hinder widespread deployment of DER.
Its partnership approach with stakeholder participants from various aspects
of the market includes regulators, utilities, states, and equipment
manufacturers. The partnership is focused on the market integration of
distributed energy resources and is also analyzing the environmental
implications of widespread deployment of DER. This session includes a
discussion by some of E2I’s DER partners, and will provide insights on the
partnership’s approach and critical priorities.

Stories and Lessons Learned
State Energy Offices and energy service companies have undertaken
some important energy efficiency projects in recent years ranging from
entire public facility complexes to the retrofit of a single school. This
session relies on firsthand accounts of two projects that illustrate how the
multiple needs of public facilities are being met through energy performance
contracting. In addition, our presenters will highlight what went right and

Harnessing Industrial Competition: Advancing Efficient
Technology through Public Procurement
The past decade has seen several new and efficient products
introduced in response to public procurements with aggressive
specifications. Notable examples include refrigerators, ultracompact
fluorescent lamps, and commercial "rooftop" air conditioners. The presenter
will describe experience in pursuing this approach, with emphasis on the
critical role of public agencies. He will then report progress on additional
procurement projects currently in progress.
