U.S. State Energy Program Reauthorization Bill Moves Forward - Strengthens Energy Security

For several years, NASEO has been working on a bipartisan basis with the states and Members of the U.S. House and Senate authorizing committees to achieve a reauthorization of appropriations for the U.S. State Energy Program (SEP). Recent bipartisan action by the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee's Energy Subcommittee resulted in subcommittee and full committee approval of H.R. 3050, Enhancing State Energy Security Planning and Emergency Preparedness Act.  The bill authorizes appropriations of $90 million for SEP and significantly strengthens the existing energy emergency planning requirements for SEP. NASEO will provide updates on the progress of the bill’s movement through Congress in the coming weeks.
