Western EV Expansion Provides Insights

Electric vehicle infrastructure has taken off in western U.S. states – namely Washington, Oregon, and California – where fast-charging stations for EVs are present every 25-50 miles along Interstate 5 from British Columbia to Baja, California.  EV infrastructure investment is also growing in the Intermountain West, where states are coordinating EV charging station placement along major corridors through the Regional Electric Vehicle Plan for the West (REV West) Memorandum of Understanding. Thanks to the 2016 Volkswagen Settlement, which created a $2.9 billion Environmental Mitigation Trust to support transportation projects that reduce NOx emissions, states now have access to more funding for expanding the reach of zero-emission vehicles.

NASEO members Christian Williss, Director of Transportation Fuels and Technology at the Colorado Energy Office; Jessica Reichers, Technology and Policy Manager at the Oregon Department of Energy; and Peter Moulton, Policy Section Manager at the Washington State Department of Commerce were interviewed for this Morning Consult article on expanding EV charging in their states. Take a look.
