NAESCO Efficiency Workbook is Useful Tool for Program DevelopmentPosted: March 13, 2003 Recently completed by the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO), the Energy Efficiency Program Planning Workbook provides useful information for state energy officials and others at they design efficiency programs. Global oil supply uncertainty, high demand for transportation fuels, and lower than normal crude oil, gasoline, and diesel inventory levels may increase the potential for supply/distribution problems this summer. Minor perturbations in the distribution system can cause price volatility with potential surges in prices in localized regions. Diesel fuel prices may also be high this summer. To help inform the energy community about the current situation, this half-day conference will include EIA's Motor Gasoline Outlook along with presentations by industry representatives, energy experts, and State officials who will discuss the world oil outlook, gasoline and diesel supplies, as well as regional fuel issues. An open forum will follow the speaker presentations. Registration for this event is free. To review the preliminary agenda and meeting registration form click here. Please note that space is limited and the registration deadline for the meeting is March 30, 2003. We look forward to seeing you at the conference. If you have any questions, please contact David Terry at 703-299-8800. Cornell University Study Provides Important Link Between Gasoline-Price Fluctuations and U.S. Lodging DemandPosted: March 3, 2003 The Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University released a study recently that provides a 13-year analysis of the relationship between gasoline prices and lodging demand. The study, based on brand-name hotels in the United States, found that a 1-percent increase in gasoline prices results in a drop of rooms demand of 1.74 percent. As the U.S. relies heavily on automobiles for travel, the study argues that gasoline-consumption patterns almost certainly have an effect on travel choices, and those travel choices consequently affect lodging demand.
