The Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Division of Energy Resources (DER), the State Energy Office, is in the midst of hiring dozens of new staff to help manage the rollout of new and enhanced energy programs.
As a result of an influx of both state and federal funding, the State Energy Office is adding 64 new positions this year, increasing its size from 90 to over 150 employees. The additional personnel will primarily support several new energy programs created by state and federal legislation, including a rebate program, a statewide Green Bank, and a $100 million competitiveness fund. In addition, the increased staff is enabling the office to pursue millions of dollars in funding opportunities made available through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act to support utility and community programs.
As part of its hiring process, the Energy Office is focused on onboarding staffers with diverse talents and experiences to ensure that it is developing programs with a whole-state focus in mind. The new hires will provide the experience and skills necessary to create robust, durable, and effective energy programs that advance the state’s energy goals and reach all sectors of the state.
