On April 16, 2025, the State of New York announced the availability of $12 million in funding to support innovative grid modernization projects. Managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) program will select proposals that aim to enhance the current system, allowing the grid to reliably deliver growing domestic energy resources. Through product development projects, demonstration projects, or studies, NYSERDA seeks proposals that focus on:
- transmission utilization improvements, such as advanced conductors and modern infrastructure
- inverter-based resource integration in processes such as planning
- operational situational awareness relevant to operator decision-making, evaluating reliability, data analytics, and maintenance methods
Additionally, NYSERDA will pursue projects that address market risks and drive toward deployment while accounting for the cost share requirements. For product development or demonstration projects, awardees may receive up to $3 million. For research studies, awardees may receive up to $400,000. Proposal applications are due on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by 3:00 PM ET.
This program was developed alongside the Joint Utilities of New York members – Con Edison, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, National Grid, New York State Electric and Gas, Rochester Gas & Electric, and Orange & Rockland – and the Advanced Technology Working Group. The GETs program falls under New York’s Grid Modernization program, awarding funding since 2016.
