In March 2025, the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Office of Energy Policy and the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, a NASEO Affiliate Partner, delivered four professional development workshops for teachers in 52 schools across the state. Supported with U.S. State Energy Program funding, the workshops offered introductory lessons on energy efficiency topics, integrating science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning with hands-on activities and interactive modules for educators to incorporate into lesson plans.
The Office of Energy Policy compiles K-12 energy education resources for teachers and is developing a comprehensive database of energy career training and post-secondary education opportunities on their website, found here. Additionally, cross-agency collaboration with Kentucky’s Department of Education and related organizations fosters new opportunities to advance NEED’s energy programming in Kentucky.
