Google and CTC Global to Collaborate on Deployment of Next-Generation Transmission Technology

Source: NASEO

On June 17, 2025, Google and conductor manufacturer CTC Global announced that they are collaborating on an initiative to expand U.S. electric grid and transmission capacity.  These companies are partnering to prioritize projects to deploy advanced conductors, a technology which has proven to increase both the capacity and reliability of existing towers and poles.

The companies have issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify transmission lines across the U.S. based on their potential to improve grid capacity with the implementation of high-performance conductors. The initiative will prioritize projects that can have the greatest immediate impact and that support load growth where Google operates.

States, utilities, and transmission developers can respond to the RFI, which is due on July 14, 2025, and a full Request for Proposals will be issued shortly thereafter. According to their press release, “applications are encouraged from areas where Google has existing or announced data centers, as well as their associated wholesale markets.”  Those partners and projects selected will receive access to cost assistance, workforce training, and technical analysis in support of deploying this technology.

NASEO’s Electricity Committee will be hosting a webinar on this initiative on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. ET, which will feature speakers from both CTC Global and Google.  Please register here for the webinar.
