On July 23, 2025, the New York State Energy Planning Board (Planning Board), chaired by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), released its Draft State Energy Plan for public comment, along with a schedule of public hearings that will be held across New York State. This comprehensive plan outlines a 15-year vision for New York’s energy future through 2040 and will serve as a roadmap to guide the state toward a reliable, clean, and affordable energy system. The plan establishes strategic recommendations to meet New York’s evolving energy demands while building upon the state’s progress toward establishing a clean energy economy. Key focus areas of the plan include strengthening grid reliability and resilience, upgrading the aging energy infrastructure, ensuring energy affordability, building local government capacity, and supporting economic and workforce development.?
New Yorkers are encouraged to participate in the planning process by submitting comments during the public comment period, which is open until October 6, 2025. The Planning Board will also host seven in-person public hearings throughout the state, as well as two virtual hearings, providing New Yorkers with the opportunity to share their feedback directly. All input received will be reviewed by the Planning Board and will help inform the development of the final State Energy Plan, which is set to be published by the end of 2025.
