The Virginia Department of Energy announced a new online platform, Virginia Energy Connect (VEConnect), to simplify access to energy rebates and incentive programs for Virginia’s residents and businesses. The hub consolidates federal, state, and local energy programs into one easy-to-navigate site. By anonymously answering a few questions about their property and income, the system generates a curated list of resources, alongside a personalized list of relevant programs with details about eligibility and how to apply.
The platform was developed collaboratively with a working group of community organizations, state and local agencies, utilities, and contractors to understand existing barriers to participation and design a site that would enable Virginians, especially households and small businesses with high energy burdens, to take advantage of incentives for energy technologies and home upgrades that can lower energy bills, improve comfort, and contribute to a more reliable grid. To further improve accessibility, Virginia Energy is training a pilot group of community members to serve as Energy Ambassadors and provide assistance to residents and businesses who prefer in-person help or lack reliable internet access. Virginia Energy plans to launch a second phase of the VEConnect platform later this fall to add new programs and features, including a set of resources designed for contractors.
